Overview

The Wessex Royale is a delightful Georgian hotel with an excellent location in the centre of Dorchester. It has free Wi-Fi and an á la carte restaurant.

All rooms have premium digital TV channels, free Wi-Fi and modern en suite bathrooms with a bath and power shower.

The Wessex Royale is ideal for a relaxing break. The hotel was built in 1756 and its classic features include fireplaces, panelling and a magnificent grand staircase.

The restaurant is fully refurbished and air conditioned. It is open each evening and serves traditional and exciting new dishes and several wines. The superb residents’ lounge has comfortable chairs, a warm and cosy fire and drinks.

The Wessex Royale has 2 spacious, air-conditioned conference rooms: The Williams Barnes Room and the smaller Regency Room. Both offer first-class business facilities and space for private functions.

The local area boasts many natural sites of beauty, with walks, golf courses, fishing lakes and the Dorset countryside.

There are also many historical sites of interest such as Maiden Castle, the world’s largest Iron Age hill fort, Thomas Hardy’s cottage, or the nearby Roman townhouse.

Travel information

By Car
From the North:
- Travel down the M5 until junction 15, then exit onto the M4 (south) at junction 19.
- Exit onto the M32.
- At junction 3 travel onto the A4032 (Newfoundland Way) in Bristol.
- Turn right onto the A4044 (Bond Street into Temple Way) and then turn left onto Templegate, which continues onto Bath Road.
- From here, take the A37 (Wells Road) to Yeovil and continue on the A37 south of Yeovil until you reach the B3147.
- Follow this road and turn left onto the B3150, High West Street.
